The Worst Crowdfunding Campaigns Of All Time
Crowdfunding has enjoyed a dramatic upsurge.
Some of the most ground-breaking, remarkable products of the past few years have come from campaigns on Kickstarter or Indiegogo − with inventors, film makers, games developers and all manner of entrepreneurs pitching to convince the community to contribute and materialise their dreams.
However, here are the most awful crowdfunding ideas that do not deserve funding.
The wooden bow tie project
Because they thought bow ties are increasingly popular these days, a group of individuals from the USA came up with a brand new idea in neckwear − designing bow ties from high quality salvaged wood. In fact, this project has persuaded 31 backers who pledged $1,659 to help bring this project to life. Although this concept is new, still this idea just isn’t worth the funds!
Op Beer Gadget
The Op is a multi-tool that is designed for beer drinkers. It has a removable bottle opener. However, it is being used as a belt-mounted beer holster, which is its main function. Aside from cowboys and secret agents, no one else needs a holster. Even so, the campaign is still pushing it to acquire funds and its goal is to reach €60,000.
Skarp Laser Razer
A razer with a ‘fricking laser beam’ for slicing your stubble off – this was one of the big stories of 2015. But guess what? It never existed! The proponents had never actually made a working prototype; it was all theoretical. Kickstarter then realised about it that’s why it put off the project. But before its suspension, a number of people pledged $4,005,111.
VapeCase
Right now, vaping is the hottest category going in the USA. To simplify things for vapers around the world, a company in the United States came up with a new innovation by combining a vaporizer into a cell phone case. This so called VapeCase is a campaign on Indiegogo. The goal of the campaign is to reach $50,000 but people pledged only $911.
PAUL, the sexiest smartphone charger on the planet
Someone devised a phone charger that is literally sexy. The innovative smartphone charger was named PAUL. It’s actually a tacky statue of a naked, dismembered woman or man. The front is where you place your smartphone while the back of the statue is where the plug is. The concept isn’t that impressive so the project did not gain much. There were only 12 backers who pledged a total of $2,160.
Tentacle Bento
Tentacle Bento is a card game which basically involves tentacles violating school girls. Just a very lame idea, right? But who would have thought that this campaign was able to raise more than twice its funding goal before Kickstarter suspended it. The campaign got $30,701 pledged; the goal was just $13,000.
Glasses-Free 3D Game for the iPhone
Want a true 3D gaming machine? This special film is supposed to turn your iPhone into a 3D gaming machine by simply sticking it onto your phone’s screen. But if you do that, absolutely bugger all will happen! Because it’s not film made from magical Dragonglass forged in the Mines of Moria and quenched in the tears of a thousand gullible chumps. And if you’re wondering if it was funded, the answer is NO. People only pledged a total of $21.
Fish On Wheels
We all know that our pet fish have always been limited to their water holding are known as “fish tank”. In an attempt to liberate fish worldwide, Fish on Wheels has been developed. This car moves by detecting the position of the fish with computer vision and therefore, fish can steer their tank into a certain direction. This invention is set to encourage more advances in pet mobility, so animals can travel more freely. Still the community was not really impressed so this project also failed to raise funds. The goal was €40,000 but they got only €5,281 from people who pledged.
